Prayer Book and Benedictional Circa 1525

These two leaves are from a Prayer Book and Benedictional for the use of
Cistercian Nuns, in Latin, France. There are eighteen lines in black ink of angular
Gothic Script, rubrics in red, from the section "Prayers and Hymns".

Provenance: Cistercian House, presumably a nunnery since the opening
and only illustrated, office for the profession of female novices, who promised
live secundum regulam sancti Benedicti.  The Illumination within this
Prayer Book shows considerable similarities with those of the
Master of Francois de Rohan, active in Paris from Circa 1525-1546.

Recto: One line initial "O" in blue and white inks on a liquid gold ground. Verso: A two line initial "A" in blue and white inks on a liquid gold rectangular ground.*
Recto: Two two-line initials, initial "O" in blue and white inks encapsulating a floral on a liquid gold rectangular ground and an initial "O" in red and white inks encapsulating a floral on a liquid gold rectangular ground. Verso: A two-line initial "O" in blue and white inks on a liquid gold rectangular ground.*
